New Thai Fusion Restaurant In Penang Named One Of The 10 Restaurants To Book In 2025
So(me) (g)ood food.
Chef Thitid "Ton" Tassanakajohn, the culinary maestro behind Bangkok's renowned Le Du and Nusara, has brought his innovative flair to Penang with Sood by Chef Ton
Sood by Chef Ton has recently earned a spot on the prestigious World's 50 Best list as one of the "10 Restaurants to Book in 2025", solidifying Penang's status as a must-visit destination for food lovers.
Housed in a beautifully restored 150-year-old heritage building once home to Robert Townsend Farquhar, Sood offers innovative dishes that marry modern Thai flavours with a touch of Penang's cultural richness.
The restaurant's interior is a feast for the eyes, with playful red walls that beautifully contrast against original mosaic tiled floors, creating a unique and inviting atmosphere
Sculptures and art pieces, such as the wireframe rider on horseback, are scattered throughout the restaurant, paying homage to both the building's colonial heritage and Thai cultural influences.
The restaurant offers two distinct spaces to suit different moods and occasions. The Ground Floor dining area provides an intimate and refined setting that can accommodate up 50 people. Upstairs, the SO-OD Bar transforms into a dynamic nightlife venue, featuring live bands and DJs for a more laid-back ambiance.
But the true star of Sood is undoubtedly the food
Chef Ton's innovative menu showcases delicious concoctions that blend traditional Thai ingredients with modern techniques, all while drawing inspiration from Penang's unique culinary scene.
Some of the highlights include a Mango Sticky Rice Parfait, a modern take on the classic Thai dessert; Thai Cendol with Coconut Ice Cream, a refreshing fusion of flavours; and Brioche Toast with Uni and Chili Jam, a bold and unexpected combination.
For those who enjoy seafood, the Grilled River Prawn with Sweet Fish Sauce and the Thai Tacos Larb Grilled Prawn are must-tries!
