[VIDEO] Fly FM's Ean Nasrun Reveals What He’d Tell His Younger Self
"Just when you think you're stable and life doesn't give you any more challenges..."
"What if I'd jumped to a new job sooner?", or "What if I was more careful with my finances during my youth?"
Going through life's ups and downs, it's common for most of us to wonder about the many 'what if' moments where we question the choices we've made and paths we've pursued.
While some of these incidents end up becoming valuable lessons to us, they can also serve to help others avoid mistakes earlier on in their life journey.
So given the opportunity, what would we tell our younger selves?
In the latest episode of the the Teh'O Show, Fly FM radio DJ Ean Nasrun talks about some of the biggest challenges he faced throughout his life, along with some sage advice that he'd share with his younger self if he had the chance
You can watch the full episode below:
To kick things off, host Adrian Lai asks Ean about one of his life's most challenging moments — dealing with his father's illness while navigating a major career transition
Amid switching radio stations from his old job to a new role at Fly FM, Ean's father became seriously ill, forcing him to take a month off work without any income.
"Just when you think that you're stable and life doesn't give you any more challenges, boom!
"The lead up to that was quite intense, because I was switching stations and my dad got really sick at that point in time," he said.
The situation unsurprisingly took a significant financial and emotional toll on Ian, and he learned about being more open and adaptable to life's uncertainties.
"That left the toll on me, financially, emotionally, everything was kind of happening at once. The main thing is not to be so rigid in ideas like, just be a little bit more open to everything around you," he added.
When asked what advice he would give his younger self, Ean emphasised the importance of pacing and setting priorities
"I was in such a rush to do everything. You know, I wanted to achieve so many things, but things take time," he said.
He also cautioned against trying to rush through life, sharing, "I felt like I cut a lot of corners in the beginning of my radio career. I had a bit of a burnout in 2016 because I was saying yes to everything."
"Now, I think my main skill is... I'm really good at saying no. I'm not trying to take on too many tasks at once, just pacing myself out and putting more focus into the activities that I do.
"If you take your time with things, you can put more attention and a lot more quality," he added.
Next, Ean was shown clips from Zurich Malaysia's campaign 'Dear Younger Me', in which Malaysians shared their own bits of wisdom for living
Throughout the segment, individuals around Kuala Lumpur gave sound advice, such as the importance of spreading financial investments to reduce risk, and going out and living life more.
In a similar related segment by Malaysia Homie, others stressed the importance of focusing on education, as well as how helpful it is to believe in yourself over what others think.
Concurring with all of the advice shared, both Ean and Adrian pointed out the importance of being financially prepared for life's challenges, which includes being covered by insurance.
"There's no such thing as being too early and too prepared for something.
"If you are aware of the kind of protection coverages that are available, and you understand the needs and the budget that you have, I don't think it's necessarily a bad idea to be party to a risk transference contract," Adrian said.
