Shareezma has always been a fan of makeup. That passion eventually led her to set up Boost Balm Cosmetics at 23 years old, which she has been running for more than three years while juggling the struggles of being a new mother at the same time.

It all started when she won a grant at the Halal Hi-Tech Challenge back in 2015

Shareezma submitted her application to compete in the Halal Hi-Tech Challenge in 2015, a programme that is jointly organised by Agensi Inovasi Malaysia, technology commercialisation platform PlaTCOM Ventures, and SME Corp.

She managed to wow the judges, who are experts from various industries, with her idea and became one of the eight participants to win a RM500,000 grant.

She wanted to use that money to do something that would benefit women everywhere

Using the grant money and all her savings, Shareezma started researching to develop a liquid peelable lipstick for her company. At the same time, she also started experiencing really bad acne breakouts. She told us, "I never had breakouts before this so it felt really terrible. And it makes me worried whenever I put on makeup, like, will the makeup products damage my skin?"

"That was when I thought, 'What if I could create a cream that protects skin from the chemicals in makeup products?' And that became my biggest project," Shareezma said.

So Shareezma and her team created the Boost Balm Skin Barrier Cream

Shareezma and two of her chemists spent three years conducting research to develop a skin barrier cream that not only protects the skin, but nourishes it as well. She travelled abroad to source for organic raw materials that are required for production by herself.

Shareezma also tested the product on herself at the development phase to make sure that it's safe for use. No animal testing was conducted as the Boost Balm team want their products to be cruelty-free.

The cream not only protects your skin, but acts as a primer to help your makeup last longer

The Skin Barrier Cream also allows your makeup to last longer. According to Boost Balm, your makeup can last more than 10 hours after application!

It forms an invisible film on your skin which protects it from the chemicals present in makeup products and pollutants in the air around us. The cosmetics you put on will sit on the thin film, so harmful chemicals and toxins will not have direct contact with your skin.

And there you have it, the perfect look!

Besides the Skin Barrier Cream, Shareezma is also developing more products for Boost Balm Cosmetics

"Every new product will have an element of innovation," she said. "I want to be able to surprise my customers with relatable products that are incorporated with the latest technology. Innovation is part of the Boost Balm DNA."
