Learn How You Too Can Make A Change At This Humanitarian Conference In Cyberjaya
The conference will be held at the Malaysian Global Innovation & Creativity Centre (MaGIC) from 30 September until 1 October.

UCSI University's U-Schos will be organising a humanitarian conference at the end of this month
Themed 'Empowering Lives Through Humanitarian Initiatives', the conference seeks to provide a platform for young Malaysians to:
• raise awareness on humanitarian issues happening in Malaysia
• inspire and encourage individuals to actively participate in addressing social issues
• get first hand knowledge from experienced experts in humanitarian fields
• gather like-minded individuals and organisations to brainstorm on long-term sustainable solutions that can address humanitarian issues in Malaysia
The UCSI Scholars' Circle (U-Schos) is made up of scholarship awardees from the UCSI University Trust. With the motto 'Youth Beyond Boundaries', U-Schos not only provides an array of scholarships for deserving, talented young students, but it also encourages and serves as a platform for these young people to go beyond academic excellence and create meaningful impacts in the world.
The event is co-organised by three other organisations - Hands of Hope Malaysia, Refuge For The Refugees, and The Good Tavern
Hands of Hope is a voluntary project established in January 2014 by three students from UCSI University, who were under the UCSI Scholars' Circle (U-Schos). The organisation mainly works with the marginalised communities, empowering them through education and equipping them with life skills in order for them to survive here. The organisation also gave birth to Picha Project, a social enterprise which empowers marginalised communities in Malaysia through a sustainable food catering and delivery business.
Refuge For The Refugees was started by a group of 18-year-old Malaysians. It kicked off as a project in June 2012 to help the Chin Children's Education Centre (CCEC) stay open as the school lacked the necessary funding to continue providing education to children from underprivileged communities. Today, the organisation supports 35 schools - 10 across Malaysia and 25 across Myanmar - as they continue to raise awareness on the importance of education for marginalised children.
The Good Tavern, on the other hand, is a student-run marketplace/platform that works with social enterprises striving to make a difference in the world. Working hand-in-hand with a number of initiatives and businesses, they basically curate products such as food, lifestyle goods, fashion items, and furniture, with every intention of ensuring economic quality and enhancing social, environmental, and economic sustainability.
What will the conference be about?
The humanitarian conference is part of the 'Humanitarian Week: Behind My Smile' awareness campaign and will feature a wide range of talented, inspiring people who are involved in humanitarian initiatives from the local community.
Some of the speakers who will be taking part in the conference are:
• Heidy Quah, Co-Founder, Refuge for the Refugees - Struggle of Refugees
• Samuel Siew, Founder & Head Coach, Dream Village Football Academy - Creating
Opportunities at Youth at Risk
• Kuhan Pathy, Founder, Masala Wheels - Tackling Urban Poverty
• Suzanne Ling, Co-Founder, The Picha Project - Empowering Underserved Communities
• Syed Azmi, Social Activist - Anyone Can Lead Social Change
• Nicholas Foong, Director of Service, Yayasan Generasi Gemilang - Inequality of Education
There will also be a community leadership forum on the second day of the conference, on 'Creating Impact, Leading Change'. Zaim Mohzani, co-founder of Nation Building School, will be moderating the forum.
Aside from the humanitarian conference, there will also be a Humanitarian Musical Concert that illustrates the hardships and lives of refugees in Malaysia who have fled their war-torn countries to start afresh. The performers will be refugee children and teenagers from the Hands of Hope Choir.
All funds raised from the events that are part of the campaign will be for the education of marginalised children in Malaysia for the year 2018.
