Sun Life recently released a fun board game called InsureLit. It's aimed at enhancing the financial literacy of the little ones.

Although the board game is designed for children aged nine to 12, my eight-year-old could easily grasp its core principles.

The game's goal is simple: to teach kids how to earn, save, and protect their money in a fun, engaging manner.

Up to four players can play the game, which features a Monopoly-style board without property purchases or jail time. The game includes play money, bank, and insurance cards, as well as four sets of action cards that place players in lucky or unlucky situations.

The instructions on the board, play money, and action cards are in both English and Malay.

The player with the most money at the end of the game is crowned the winner.

InsureLit is designed to help children quickly and easily understand the benefits of owning insurance coverage

The board game is part of Sun Life's year-long InsureLit Campaign

The campaign was created after the company discovered that only 28% of Malaysians surveyed feel confident in their understanding of insurance and takaful products.

Their findings, published in Insure or Unsure: Sun Life Insurance Literacy Survey, revealed that 32% of Malaysians lack any form of insurance protection.

Sun Life Malaysia's chief executive officer and country head Raymond Lew believes that the best way to empower people is by improving their financial literacy and skills

He explained that financial literacy is crucial for children as it lays the foundation for responsible financial management later in life.

"Our goal with the board game is to make learning about financial literacy engaging, interactive, and fun for children. Through playing the game, we hope children will gain a better understanding of the concepts of Save, Earn and Protect, and financial planning in a relatable and accessible way," Lew said.

After playing the board game, my daughter understood the various ways people can earn, save, and protect their money

She also considered the game a lot easier to grasp and way more fun than Monopoly.

What I found most fascinating was how quickly she understood the benefits of insurance through just one round of playing the game. An unlucky action card almost cost her 300 dollars of game money. Thankfully, the Insurance/Takaful Card she had invested earlier in the round, worth 100 dollars of game money, helped protect her money.

The makers of InsureLit deserve a pat on their back because after playing the game, when I asked my eight-year-old the purpose of owning insurance, she replied without missing a beat, "To protect your money lah!"

The InsureLit board game comes in two versions: the Junior Edition and the Advanced Edition

The Junior Edition has been adapted into a Mini Edition, which will be available for the public to take home during the InsureLit Roadshow at IOI Mall Puchong from 18 to 22 September.

Meanwhile, the Advanced Edition is designed for those aged 18 and above.

At the moment, both editions aren't available for sale yet.
