Let's take this opportunity to make good use of the last days of 2014 with a little kindness. It may not be much but the smallest gestures could mean the world to these charities!

1. Bring 'Bintang' the Bear home from KL's Starwood hotels, and at the same time help children with congenital heart defects

What: Starwood hotels in Kuala Lumpur are teaming up in a joint effort to raise much needed funds to financially support local children born with congenital heart defects. The initiative first mooted by Lé Meridien Kuala Lumpur saw great success in its first year in 2013. Since then, the hotel group decided to expand on the support and hence this year for the first time, four Starwood hotels in Kuala Lumpur.

How: You can purchase “Bintang” the Bear soft toys, priced at RM50 each. Each hotel will have the bears in four distinctive T-shirt designs reflecting the unique characteristics of the four brands and hotels.

2. Make the presence of children at orphanages feel noticed by donating a gift to the Caramel Christmas Charity

What: In conjunction with the Christmas and the spirit of giving, Caramel, a local non-profit will be working with 2 parties Hamelys and BookXcess to drive donations of books and toys for orphans in 4 homes (Rumah Amal Nur El Amin in Rawang, Rumah Bakti in Hulu Klang, Rumah Hope in Petaling Jaya, Ozanam Girls House Klang)

How: 1) Head on the either one of the Hamleys or BookXcess stores. 2) Purchase an item or items for the kids from the store you are at. 3) Drop it in the box Caramel box available at the cashier counter. 4) The gift that you have purchased will be collected and sent to the homes.

3. Make this a fun-filled Christmas for the children of Kiwanis by donating battery packs or your pre-loved toys to Energizer

What: Christmas is a special time for children. In the spirit of the season of giving this year, Energizer will be playing Santa to the children of Kiwanis Malaysia. They'll be giving over RM20,000 in educational and fun battery-powered toys. Toys that can improve their confidence and social skills to brighten their days ahead.

How:
OPTION 1
Repower and repurpose your pre-loved battery-operated devices that are still in good working condition for donation to the children of Kiwanis Malaysia. Especially those with educational value. These can be dropped off with Mr. Energizer and his team.

OPTION 2

4. Support WWF-Malaysia's conservation projects with the purchase of merchandise from their Christmas Fairy Tails booth

What: WWF-Malaysia has opened a booth at Mid Valley Megamall’s Christmas Fairy Tails, with merchandise on sale.

How: Visit the booth to purchase the merchandise sold there. All proceeds generated from the booth will be channeled to WWF-Malaysia’s conservation projects

5. Spare a little donation and you can get a photo op with Santa this Christmas in Pavilion!

What: Spread the Christmas cheer with your pets at this pet-friendly charity event party. There will be off-leash play pens, games for your furkid, photo booth and a festive bazaar featuring stalls by Doggy Bag, Pet Lovers Centre, Barkery Oven, dogPorium, Sailor’s Gourmet Sausages and more.

7. Have an exciting and lively evening at RED by Sunday Funk with proceeds going to the Malaysian AIDS Foundation

What: La Bodega Tapas y Vinos is in partnership with the Malaysian AIDS Foundation in an effort to raise funds to enable the continuation of HIV prevention works, educating society, and for the direct assistance to People Living With HIV (particularly children and women who are infected by the virus). Dresscode is RED.

How: Place your bid on limited edition bottles of Champagne and magnums, and other premium items with all proceeds going towards the Malaysian AIDS Foundation. Cover charge is RM30 (inclusive of a welcome drink).

8. Fill your tummy and warm your heart at the PCTH Youth Charity Food Fair knowing that you've contributed in helping someone

What: The Penang Chinese Town Hall Youth Food Fair will be held in conjunction with the charity ride on the same day. Food for the fair can be purchased via coupons. 11. Give a donation to have a special ornament with your name up on Shangri-La KL's Christmas tree while helping children suffering from severe heart ailments

What: "Embrace The Gift of Life” is an annual charity project initiated by Shangri-La Hotel Kuala Lumpur, to aid children suffering from severe heart ailments. Since 1985, Shangri-La Hotel Kuala Lumpur has helped hundreds of critically ill children and has raised more than RM3 million through this project.

How: You and your organisation can support this annual fund-raising charity project by sponsoring a sugarpiece from the “Merry Nutcracker Joy Ride” collection with a minimum donation of RM1,000. This will go to the children who are in urgent need of funds for immediate surgery and medical care. Donation form can be found here.
