With the hot Malaysian weather, it's easy for our skin to get all dry and flaky :(

If you've ever experienced dry skin, you'll understand how irritating it is when it feels drier than the Sahara desert. While we can stay indoors to escape the heat, there are other things we do on a daily basis that may lead to dry skin. By being aware of what causes dry skin, we can actively take the necessary steps to keep our skin smooth, supple, and moist.

Here are things you should NOT do to avoid getting dry skin:

1. Applying moisturiser or lotion on dry skin

After washing your face or taking a long shower, you probably dry off with a towel before applying moisturiser and lotion, right? Well, you should probably stop doing that, 'cause you're supposed to be applying moisturiser on damp skin, as this helps to lock in hydration.

While applying moisturiser on dry skin does temporarily soften your skin, but it's more effective in the long run when applied on wet skin.

2. Including too much alcohol, caffeine, and salt in your everyday diet

If you already suffer from dry skin, these things can make your skin dry out even more. It's time to cut down on your caffeine and alcohol intake, as well as food with too much salt.

Instead, make sure you're consuming enough vitamin C, which is important for collagen production. You should also be consuming enough protein and healthy fats, such as those found in avocados. Remember, these vitamins and nutrients are your best friends in achieving moisturised skin!

3. Mandi-ing with water that's too hot

Hot showers aren't the best for your skin, as water that’s too panas can strip your skin of its essential oils, leaving it dry. Yes, we know a nice hot shower can be relaxing and amazing on a cold day, but it's best not to do it on a regular basis.

Instead, bathe with warm or lukewarm water instead to protect your skin. Or, go with cold water, you'll probably enjoy it better on a hot, sweltering day!

4. Skipping sunscreen in your skincare routine

Just because you're not in direct sunlight, it doesn't mean you can escape the sun's UV rays! Even on cloudy days, those harmful rays are capable of penetrating through the clouds and damaging your skin's moisture barrier.

Applying sunscreen should be the last step in your skincare routine. Remember to choose one that's hydrating for your skin, and test on a small patch on your arm before applying it all over, just in case.

5. Exfoliating your skin excessively

Exfoliating feels sooo good because it feels like we're getting rid of all those dead skin cells, right? However, whether it's your face or your body, you shouldn't overdo it when it comes to exfoliating.

If your skin feels itchy and more inflamed than usual, it probably means your excessive exfoliating has caused small cracks in your skin barrier, which leads to loss of moisture. Remember to keep the exfoliating to just once or twice per week, okay?

6. Forgetting to hydrate throughout the day

This is something we might not even realise we do on a daily basis. A lack of water may cause our skin to lose its plumpness and elasticity, which in tun can lead to dryness and flaky skin.

Keep a bottle of water next to you wherever you go, be it for work, online classes, and even when you're headed to sleep at night.

Choosing a body wash that promotes hydration is another way to ensure you won't experience dry skin.

With Dove's Go Fresh body wash range, you'll enjoy 24-hour hydration to keep your skin feeling refreshed and rejuvenated!

Thanks to its all new skin prebiotics formula, your skin will be left hydrated and moisturised throughout the day. This is because it helps to moisturise, protect and repair the skin's microbiome barrier. Plus, you won't have to worry about it leaving a sticky sensation on your skin, as it lathers easily with a frothy, rich foam. :D

Dove has even added two new variants to their Go Fresh range – White Peach and Yuzu! Just like all the other variants in the range, these two offer 24-hour hydration. Formulated to help strengthen micro-ecology moisture veil, the body wash locks in just the right amount of your skin's own moisture, without burdening the skin.

Here's what you can expect from Dove White Peach and Yuzu:

1. White Peach X White Tea
Inspired by the elegant Japanese white peach blossom, this body wash will leave your skin feeling bouncy, tender, and bright after a shower. Plus, it has a light, refreshing scent :D
