While National Day is all about liberation, Malaysia Day celebrates the gift that is unity

Malaysia Day was born on 16 September 1963, when Malaya (peninsular Malaysia) joined forces with North Borneo (now Sabah), Sarawak and Singapore to form what we know today as Malaysia.

Unfortunately, due to racial tensions, Singapore opted out of the formation on 7 August 1965.

However, Malaysia Day has only been popularly celebrated since it was declared as a public holiday in 2010.

We Malaysians love all things mushy and these 2015 Malaysia Day videos are quite the tear-jerkers.

1. What if Your Family is Larger Than You Think?

Maxis creates a beautiful masterpiece depicting the joy in helping those is need. The video is a great reminder that love and care can bridge any gap and every act of kindness lights up lives in its own little way.

This isn't the first time Uncle Ah San caught the media'a attention. He is the picture of kindness and proves to be an inspiration to many out there. Here is our glimpse into Uncle Ah San's beautiful, yet difficult life:

2. Finding Malaysia

Digi has always been known to come up with the quirkiest concepts for their advertisements. For Malaysia Day this year, they found two Malaysians who have been named literally, after Malaysia, for the love of Malaysia; Malaysia Rani and Tun Malaysia Venecia Zaman Riera. Watch them talk about the origins of their names and oh, don't complain that your name is...different.

3. #Akrab

Petronas loves taking us back in time, and the independence era is their forte. Watch the beauty that is friendship, forgiveness and togetherness pictured in this bittersweet advertisement.

4. When Multilingual Malaysians Speak Their Local Lingo... #satusamalain

We at SAYS love throwing in a little bit of humour into everything we do. With that said, we came up with the this funny Malaysia Day video that celebrates the amazing motley of languages that enriches our Malaysian culture. One thing is for sure, we love bonding over food, amazing Malaysian food with explosive flavours!

5. Burger Cina vs Burger Melayu vs Burger India #KitaSemuaSamaJe

Food is a universal connector. myBurgerLab took that ever so familiar concept and decided to put Malaysians through a little test. They created the Malaysian platter; basically, three identical burgers with their only difference being the names for each one, burger Melayu, Cina and India. Watch as fellow Malaysians try and seek out the differences between the burgers. The message was crystal clear; we might have different sounding names, come wrapped in a motley of colours or believe in a variety of ideas that might not always coincide, but at the core, we are all the same, just a bunch of Malaysians crazy in love with our local cuisine.
