These vending machines put a slightly different twist to conventional ones. One will have to pay RM10 to select a number and get one mysterious gift box.

Gifts from these machines include brick toys, air purifier, Sony PS4 and even the iPhone X

These mystery box vending machines first went viral in Japan and Taiwan

Videos of people trying their luck at these machines in Japan and Taiwan have garnered millions of views on YouTube. The videos mainly show people opening their mystery boxes and winning grand prizes.

When these vending machines arrived in Malaysia, they successfully grabbed tons of attention

To date, at least four local companies have brought in this concept, including: Vendream, Pink Boom, Fuyoh Box and Bee Bae.

These companies now have vending machines placed in Klang Valley, Penang, Ipoh, and Seremban.

People think that spending RM10 is a small investment for the grand prizes that they might win

In an interview with SAYS, 29-year-old Jamalulail Mokhtar said that he didn't expect to win anything at first try from the Vendream machine in Fahrenheit 88 shopping centre in Kuala Lumpur.

Jamalulail won a SHARP Air Purifier on first try with the vending machine.

"If we invest RM10, I think the prizes (that we might win) are worth more than RM10," he added.

He also said that he's more willing to pay RM10 again in hopes for other grand prizes from the vending machine.

Some also said that if they managed to win a small prize, they would be more likely to spend more than RM10 in their attempt to win other prizes

27-year-old Isabella Ng told SAYS that if she managed to win something like a pair of headphones, she would attempt to pay more in order to win other grand prizes such as the LCD television.

"I also think that paying RM10 is just nice for a vending machine like this," she added.

Isabella won a box of strawberry milk on her first try.
