Being a new parent can often come with a variety of challenges. But sometimes, the aid of a professional can be the most handy and necessary thing to make the journey manageable.

A recent TikTok has gone viral online after a Malaysian woman named Liyana shared a smart trick used by a doctor in Penang to stop a newborn baby from crying.

In the 45-second clip, the doctor, who goes by Dr Tan, picks up a crying newborn and gently tilts the baby. Holding the child close to his chest, Dr Tan proceeds to rock his body back and forth, effectively stopping the crying almost instantly.

Explaining this method to those around him, he stated that babies are accustomed to this motion while they are still in the womb, which provides them with a sense of comfort.

Dr Tan then demonstrates how to calm the baby if the child starting crying and wants to drink milk. The doctor gently rocks the baby up and down in the air before moving the child's head forward. Remarkably, the newborn's mouth also opens slightly, indicating that the child is ready to be fed.
