Japanese Company Gives Its Staff A Monthly Allowance To Take Care Of Rescued Stray Cats
It all started from one rescue cat.
An IT company in Tokyo, Japan has a truly endearing way of keeping its staff happy
Ferray Corporation, located in the Harumi neighbourhood, pays its staff a monthly allowance called neko teate - which translates to "cat compensation".
SoraNews24 reported that the extra allowance is given only to employees who have adopted a rescue cat.
Employees who have adopted rescued cats are given an extra 5,000 yen (approximately RM197) each month to offset the costs of its care
The fee usually goes towards buying food and pet supplies for the cat.
Neko teate became part of the company culture not long after its inception 19 years ago
One of Ferray's employees had adopted a rescue cat shortly after the company was formed, reported SoraNews24.
That cat then began accompanying its owner to work, which inspired other employees to adopt rescue cats of their own.
Soon, cats became a permanent fixture of the company - and you can even follow all the office cats' shenanigans on Twitter!
"Every time the cats do something naughty, work comes to a stop," Ferray chief executive officer Hidenobu Fukuda told SoraNews24.
"Sometimes we all have a good laugh, and sometimes they cause actual problems, but I think this helps our staff feel closer to each other by having something in common other than our work itself."
