[PHOTOS] Here Are Our Favourite Memories Of Our Dads Growing Up In The 80s & 90s

There's just something special about dads! From the way they joke around or carry us on their shoulders, to the adventures and special moments they create in our lives.

They make us feel safe and loved while bringing humour and fun into our lives.

"My fave memory with my dad was when he used to take my friends and I to Central Park near 1 Utama. Back then, there was a huge wooden ship at the park that we loved to play on.

"He'd come up with what he called 'obstacle courses' for us where we'd have to race against time to complete different fun tasks, like hopping and jumping, or swinging around.

"It's really fun to grow up with a dad who knows how to have fun as well."

"My dad would always get up early to make us breakfast every morning before school. My brother and I always appreciated that because we usually cannot function before 7am, hahaha.

"My favourite breakfast by him were his chicken steak sandwiches, or some good ol' oats."

"My dad wanted to become a concert pianist.

"Unfortunately, his parents didn't allow him to learn the piano when he was growing up. I guess that's why he married my mum (a piano teacher), and made sure my sister and I started playing from a young age.

"While I didn't manage to fulfil his dream, I'm grateful that I grew up to be pretty musical – I ended up picking up drums instead. But we all know who the most musical one in the family will always be!

"P.S. My dad still absolutely loves to play the piano up until today."

"I still remember this day. It was Hari Raya, and my father gave me a present to celebrate the day, which is a bag for me to collect duit raya.

"I would say that my father is a happy-go-lucky person and always entertains us. He is a loving and kind-hearted person. I am so lucky and grateful to have a father like him.

"Also, in that year, we welcomed an additional member in our family, which is my baby brother and I'm very happy to celebrate Eid together with my family."

"I had an awesome childhood because of my papa. We were besties since I was a baby.

"Every weekend we would go for long walks and chit chat about this, that, and everything else. None of my siblings were really into sports, so my dad and I would watch tennis together or spend hours watching Formula 1 racing.

"When I was around nine years old, I told him I would be the first female F1 racer and he was like, 'Yeah! Go for it!' Didn't quite work out haha. But it's definitely still one of my favourite memories."

"When my dad switched to a higher-paying job, he was posted to Johor.

"And since he was new, he was really busy, so he returned to KL about once a month, or sometimes once in two months.

"You see, my dad and I, we didn't exactly have a close bond when I was growing up. I spent most of my time playing games or reading books, not caring about what was going on around me. At that time, I was also going through some teenager phase, so I argued with him a lot.

"But when he started working in Johor, the house felt so empty without him around. That's when I realised how much I took him for granted.

"One time, we decided to drive to Melaka for the weekend, so that we could meet my dad because we hadn't seen him for almost two months then. We wanted to save him the trouble of having to travel all the way back to KL as well. Yeah, so we really enjoyed our weekend together in Melaka that time. It felt like the family was complete.

"When we had to return to KL, I got really emotional and hugged him tightly. I'm pretty sure I felt my eyes swimming in tears, but I repeatedly told myself not to cry. I remember also telling myself that I must never take him for granted again. That I'd make sure to always spend time with him whenever he's home.

"From that moment onwards, my relationship with my dad improved significantly. He comes home more often now, once every two weeks (not during MCO) and I always, always make sure to spend some time with him, no matter how busy I get."

"Let me just start off by saying that my dad is an extremely outgoing and oftentimes loud person.

"Like, he makes friends easily regardless of age, can talk about almost anything to anyone and is a real kid at heart. He's also the kind of person who would do dumb-looking stuff if you asked him to, just for funsies.

"So there was a time where my family was having lunch at Johnny Rockets (back when it was still a thing) and anyone who has been to Johnny Rockets knows that the crew perform once an hour or something like that. So that very day, during that very lunch hour, the crew performed Gangnam Style.

"Niiiiice, just my luck. So my dad started singing along and at the short pause (of complete silence) right before Psy went 'OPPA GANGNAM STYLE!', guess who decides to shout it first?

"That's right. My dad. My dad shouting 'OPPA GANGNAM STYLE' ... in the middle of a mall ... when everyone else was waiting for the beat to drop. I think the funniest part was that I was so embarrassed that I cried. HAHAHAHAHAHHAHA.

"P.S. Even though it was embarrassing I still love him."

"My favourite memories with my dad are when we went on road trips together as a family. I always looked forward to the year-end school holidays as we would go for short staycations around the country.

"During my childhood years, we would frequently visit Genting Highlands, and we have many fond memories of the times we spent there."

"My favourite thing about my dad is the fact that he is passionate about so many different things, teaching me to have my own hobbies and interests.

"He has always loved fishing, he used to be really into photography, and even cycling. I think it's really important to enjoy hobbies, regardless of what your age is because it brings joy into your life. Each one of my siblings have their own hobbies and passions and my parents have always shown their support for all of them. They encourage us to join activities in school and will show up to every sports game, concert, drama night.

"I feel like this has shaped me to become the confident woman that I am, knowing that my parents will always have my back and they will always encourage me to pursue what I love."

"Hmm let's see. My diet right now isn't working because of my dad.

"Like every time I tell him I want to go on a diet, his response would be 'okay'. But next thing I know, he'll buy me burger daging special (my favourite) and with double patties some more!

"Then he'll cook his signature dish, ikan patin tempoyak, which I also like, and a lot more lah.

"In an Asian household, you cannot say no when your parents give you food lah, right? So, yeah, I can never go on a diet."
