If you've been keeping up with the bubble tea trend, you would have noticed people adding pearls (and in some cases even the tea itself) into their food

There have been some mixed reactions regarding these foods with added pearls, with most people responding with the following GIF:

Japan has been very adventurous lately, adding pearls to their home-cooked dishes such as mapo tofu, omelettes, and even beer

If you're into Japanese food, you will want to try ramen or sushi, topped with pearls

The Japanese have also been adding pearls to a traditional dish known as 'chikuzenni' - made from braised chicken and vegetables.

Other dishes that apparently make good combinations with pearls include potatoes and garlic

Perhaps something that hits closer to home is this mee goreng with added pearls that has people going WTF
