The official trailer for the 5th Terminator movie has arrived, and it looks like it's going to blow the original canon out of the water.

20 years ago, the sci-fi phenomenon that is The Terminator put director James Cameron and fledgling actor Arnold Schwarzenegger on the Hollywood's map of stars
Three sequels and a TV series later, the Terminator franchise is all set for a revamp with the upcoming Terminator: Genisys
Though not expected to be either a commercial or critical success, The Terminator topped the American box office for two weeks and helped launch the film career of Cameron and solidify that of Schwarzenegger. The franchise has spawned three sequels - Terminator 2: Judgement Day (1991), *Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003), and Terminator Salvation - as well as TV series, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.
Rest assured that the series' 5th installment is not a reboot of the original. Instead, the newly-dropped trailer hints at a new narrative direction with a complete turnaround of events as we know it
The year is 2029. John Connor (played by Jason Clarke), leader of the resistance continues the war against the machines. At the Los Angeles offensive, John's fears of the unknown future begin to emerge when TECOM spies reveal a new plot by SkyNet that will attack him from both fronts; past and future, and will ultimately change warfare forever.

As in the original film, John Connor sends his trusted lieutenant Kyle Reese (Divergent's Jai Courtney) back in time to protect his mother, Sarah Connor from a killer Terminator
But wait... Instead of the "scared and weak" Sarah Connor he expected to find, Sarah is an actual bad-a** who saves Kyle from the get-go. Suddenly, Kyle finds himself in a version of the past he's not prepared for. What gives?
Turns out, Sarah was orphaned at the age of 9 by a Terminator and since then, was raised by - wait for it, this is going to blow your mind - Schwarzenegger's T-800 Terminator who is programmed to guard rather than to kill!
As a result, Sarah is a highly trained antisocial recluse who’s great with a sniper rifle but not so skilled at the nuances of human emotion.

Directed by Alan Taylor (Thor: The Dark World), Arnold Schwarzenegger makes his return to the series for the 4th time alongside new cast members Emilia Clarke (*Game of Thrones) as Sarah Connor, Jai Courtney (Divergent), Jason Clarke (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes), Lee Byung-hun (G.I. Joe: Retaliation) and Matt Smith (Doctor Who).
