Resh(monu)'s Song Debuts In US Music Charts, Just 5 Spots Behind Drake's 'Hotline Bling'

Doing away with the 2nd half of his stage name and signature cornrows, R&B singer-songwriter Resh (formerly known as Reshmonu) is definitely rocking his comeback following a 3-year hiatus
Resh - then known as Reshmonu - released his debut album 'Monumental' in 2003, and continued to make waves in the Malaysian entertainment scene. Besides having released several albums with popular hit singles like 'Hey Waley' and 'It's You That Matters', he has also won a number of awards including the 'Best English Artist' award for 3 years straight at the Anugerah Era (2003 - 2005) and 3 awards at the Anugerah Industri Muzik Awards 2004.
Resh's latest single 'Half the Man', an R&B track off his new EP 'Who Am I', entered the Digital Radio Tracker Top 50 R&B/Hip-Hop Chart at #8 more than two weeks after it's release in the US
The song also made it to #16 at the DRT National Airplay Top 80 Independent Chart as well as #146 at the Top 200 Chart in the week ending 7 November 2015. You can check out the song's performance in the weekly charts here.
Speaking to The Star, the 39-year-old singer said, "You can imagine my excitement when the song made it to the charts so quickly. I’m still just coming to terms with it."
"When you listen to music today, everything is very EDM-based (electronic dance music) but I think people are still looking for R&B and soulful ballads," he added.
DRT is a monitoring service which tracks radio airplay of songs on more than 7,000 radio stations worldwide, so landing a spot in DRT's charts means the song is being circulated on well-known radio stations across the US
The song also landed at No. 13 on Grammy-nominated producer Al Walser’s syndicated radio show, the US Top 20, on Nov 6. Even an Italian radio station, Vittek Tape, has picked up the song.

“I’m proud to be Malaysian, I love my country. There is a lot of talent from around the world and they don’t necessarily have to come from trendsetters. It can come from countries like ours," he said to The Star.
Resh, who is currently on a promotional tour in Singapore following his EP's release in October, spent 3 weeks with Beanz in Philadelphia last year to record the album.
