Remember the Momo challenge that made its way around the Internet last year?

The challenge involved encouraging children to commit self-harm and even suicide.

Thankfully, it turned out to be just a hoax as there was no correlation found between child suicide and the Internet meme.

Thanks to the large popularity of the urban legend, movie-makers are now working to bring you a Momo movie

According to Deadline, the movie is set to be produced by Roy Lee and Takashige Ichise.

Roy Lee previously produced 'It' - the highest-grossing horror film of all time, while Takashige Ichise is the producer of cult favourite 'Ju-On' and 'The Ring'.

The storyline has not been confirmed yet but according to Deadline, the movie will likely follow a group of teenagers who disappear after one of them tells the urban legend of Momo.

Momo was created by Japanese artist Keisuke Aiso in 2016 and was originally called 'Mother Bird'

The sculpture was made based on the Japanese folk figure 'ubume', or bird woman - the ghost of a woman who died during childbirth, according to Insider.

It was never meant to scare children into doing violent acts.

Since the hoax, the sculpture has been destroyed by its maker. As a result, some are criticising the movie:
