After what can only be described as one of the pinnacle years of her career, Michelle Yeoh's success post-Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022) hasn't come close to slowing down

In what many have called "The Year of Michelle Yeoh", the Oscar winner has been taking Hollywood by storm since her history-making win.

From speaking at Harvard Law School's 2023 Class Day to celebrating the release of Disney's comedy television series, American Born Chinese (2023), it has only been triumph after triumph for the 60-year-old.

However, the success of Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022) has sparked many conversations about Yeoh reprising her role as Evelyn Wang for the film's potential sequel

With so much talk about a sequel, Yeoh recently addressed the issue after she was invited to speak at the Kering Women in Motion Awards 2023 during the Cannes Film Festival last Sunday, 21 May.

In a conversation with American publication Variety Magazine, Yeoh spoke about her very first visit to Cannes for one of her biggest films to date, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000), how she feels after becoming the first Asian woman to win an Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role, and the continual importance of diversity in the film industry.

"We are actors. We are supposed to act, we are supposed to step into roles that are given to us and do our job as best as we can. That, for me, is the biggest step forward," said Yeoh in the interview with Variety.

Unfortunately for those who have been waiting, the actress revealed that there are no plans to make a sequel for the film, despite the incessant insistence by fans

"There's no sequel. It's one of those movies where we would just be doing the same thing.

"We already fought the biggest enemy, which is sometimes ourselves, within ourselves. And we brought out the message of how we are going to do it; reminding everyone that every one of you is a superhero because we all inherently have the superpower of love, compassion, and kindness," Yeoh said during the interview.

On top of that, Yeoh also addressed the rumour that multiple sequels of Crazy Rich Asians (2018) are in talks of being produced, saying that nothing concrete is in place just yet.
