Although the name might make it sound like a Christmas or lighthearted film, it's actually the complete opposite.

'Peppermint' tells the story of a young mother by the name of Riley North (played by Jennifer Garner) who awakens from a coma after her husband and daughter were killed in a brutal drive-by shooting.

Frustrated and angry, Riley sets out to transform herself from a normal citizen to a full-on urban guerilla.

Watch Jennifer Garner seek revenge in this action-packed trailer:

When you think Jennifer Garner, you think rom-coms and family comedy-drama because of her previous roles but this isn't the case with 'Peppermint'

“I’ve never had the chance to explore that kind of visceral need to defend or protect my family in a film, but the concept was something I could easily connect with,” Garner said in an interview, as reported by Closer Weekly.

She also added that she loved the fact that it was an original idea and that a woman as a lead character in an action film is a significance she does not take lightly.

"Jennifer Garner worked her booty off," said Shauna Duggins, the actress' stunt double for nearly 20 years

Shauna Duggins estimates that Jennifer Garner performed 98% of her own stunts in the film and trained tirelessly for three months leading up to filming, reported Variety.

Duggins also said, “There are some hits, and you see her face hit the ground. You feel her pain every time she takes a punch and you see her face feel the pain." when talking about Garner's fight scenes.

Many have deemed 'Peppermint' as a female version of Keanu Reeves' 'John Wick'

The director of the film also directed Liam Neeson's 'Taken'.

"You want her to win", Duggins told Variety, adding that the audience is able to feel every bit of Garner's anguish, physical and emotional pain when she's in character.

Don't forget to catch 'Peppermint' in GSC Cinemas nationwide when it comes out on 6 September 2018
