K-pop idol and GOT7 member, Youngjae, was stunned by his Malaysian fans when he came to perform for the Grandwave Kpop Music Festival 2023

The idol performed at the event, which was held at Sunway Lagoon on 14 January, alongside other well-known Korean singers such as BI, Chen, and Shaun.

However, Youngjae stole the show at the festival when a fan uploaded a video of the idol being surprised by the response he received onstage.

Youngjae did not expect that his Malaysian fans would be fluent in Korean

In a TikTok video posted by @windlight813, the South Korean singer can be seen interacting with his fans during the interval of his set.

During K-pop concerts, it is common to see translators accompany the singer to ensure that their audience is able to communicate with them.

However, while speaking to his fans, Youngjae was surprised to see that the Malaysian crowd was responding to him before his translator could even translate what he was saying.

At one point in the video, he stops the crowd and asks, "Why is your Korean so good?"

His fans continued to interact with him and responded in fluent Korean without the help of the translator

After taking a sip of water and catching his breath, the singer asks the audience if they practised their Korean before coming to the show.

"Did you practise it [as a preparation] to come here today?" Youngjae asks the crowd.

While his words were being translated, the audience quickly replies, "Nae (yes)."

"No, you are really good," the idol tells his fans.

Youngjae then continues to converse with his fans, who only respond to him in Korean. The artist, taken aback by their language skills, asks if he is actually performing in Malaysia.

"This is Malaysia, right? You guys are the best!" says Youngjae while laughing with his fans.

Youngjae is not the first idol to be taken aback by Malaysian K-pop fans who can speak fluent Korean

In November last year, another K-pop idol, Jeon Somi, was also stunned when she came to perform in Malaysia.

The singer was so astounded by the audience's reaction that she had to tell them to wait for the translators to translate what she was saying.

"If I'm answering questions, the pretty translator will translate, so you need to listen until she finishes," Somi told her fans.

Youngjae and Somi's experiences demonstrate that Malaysian K-pop fans are always welcoming of any K-pop idols who visit the country.
