Prime Minister Ismail Sabri announced that students no longer need to return the tablets applied for in the PerantiSiswa programme

The announcement happened during the launch of the PerantiSiswa programme, where the prime minister stressed that the government has made a decision to give off the branded tablets to its recipients permanently.

For those who don't know, the PerantiSiswa programme is aimed at providing devices to the B40 community so there are no interruptions to their studies

The government will distribute these tablets as learning devices for low-income families who aren't able to afford them.

The PerantiSiswa package consists of a Samsung Galaxy Tab A8, a casing, a smart keyboard, and a stylus.

Previously, the distribution of the tablets was only established on a loan-basis, but that isn't the case anymore

According to Free Malaysia Today, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri stated that this decision was made after a thorough discussion with the Minister of Communications and Multimedia, Tan Sri Annuar Musa, and the student representative council.

"No need to loan, no need to return", said the prime minister.

He also hopes that this decision will motivate students to work harder and do better in their studies.

Annuar Musa shared that over 100,000 applications were received in phase one of PerantiSiswa

As of now, over 50,000 applications has been received for phase two, SoyaCincau reported. The same budget ceiling of RM450 million is allocated to provide 350,000 quality-tablets to eligible applicants.
