If you grew up in the 90s or early 2000s, then you confirm know about the stylish Motorola flip phones that everyone used to walk around with

These babies were compact, reliable, and also worked as an aesthetic accessory too!

Saying "I gotta go, bye bye!" then quickly ending the call by slapping the phone shut was satisfying, ngl.

However, like most smartphone companies, Motorola has since upgraded its devices to the variants of touchscreen smartphones that we're all familiar with.

And recently, Motorola was rumoured to be working on a phone with the code name, Penang!

Evan Blass of Gadget Gang wrote that Motorola is in the midst of cooking up a new smartphone codenamed 'Penang', yes, that Penang — the pearl of the orient and our beloved island-city state.

There's three variants - Penang 4G, Penang 5G, and Penang+. There's also a leaked image of how the phone would presumably look like courtesy of Evan. You can check it out below:

Aside from the codenames, not much is stated about the phone yet

Evan also reported that that the 5G North American version of Penang, model number XT-2313 will be coming to three major United States smartphone carriers which are Cricket, Dish, and Tracfone.

It's also worth noting that there is a Motorola Solutions research and development centre in Bayan Lepas, Penang, but it is unclear whether it has anything to do with the upcoming phone release

Guess we'll just have to wait and see!
