Apple has dropped a flurry of updates across its platforms during the recently held Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC25)

iOS 26, macOS Tahoe, iPadOS 26 and the rest of Apple's platforms are now dressed in a new design language called Liquid Glass, a smooth, translucent interface that's more consistent across all Apple devices.

The bigger question, however, is which of Apple's new features will actually matter to everyday iOS users in Malaysia?

Here are the five updates worth paying attention to because they'll genuinely improve the way Malaysian Apple users use their iPhones, iPads, and Macs every day.

1. Call Screening

If you've ever picked up a call and heard "Saya dari LHDN…" followed by a robotic pause, this one's for you.

Apple is finally introducing Call Screening, a built-in feature that answers calls from unknown numbers on your behalf, asks what the caller wants, and gives you a summary so you can decide whether to pick up or not.

No third-party apps, no subscription fees. Just clean, silent, efficient screening. With Malaysia plagued by daily scam attempts, this is a long-overdue lifeline.

2. Live Translation

Malaysia is a glorious linguistic mash-up. Most people effortlessly switch between Malay, English, and Manglish. But throw in Mandarin, Tamil, or Korean travel phrases, and things can get clunky fast.

With Live Translation, powered by Apple Intelligence, your iPhone or Apple Watch can now help you bridge those moments where language gets in the way of expression, whether you're typing a message or speaking face to face.

And it's all done privately, on-device. As Apple puts it, these tools are built to be "grounded in your personal context, and completely private".

For business owners, avid travellers, or just someone trying to impress their future in-laws, this is a real productivity booster.

3. Visual Intelligence

You're scrolling Instagram, spot a pair of shoes you love, and instead of screenshotting and Googling like a digital caveman, you can now just ask your iPhone what it is.

Visual intelligence in Apple's new software lets you query what's on your screen — be it a product, a phrase, or a photo — and instantly get results from Google, Etsy, or supported apps.

Even better, you can ask ChatGPT (yes, it’s now integrated) questions like "What’s this building?" or "Find similar tops under RM150", without needing to jump between apps.

This feels purpose-built for our mobile-first, content-heavy lifestyle.

4. Upgraded AirPods

Apple has quietly turned your AirPods into a low-key content tool.

With Voice Isolation, you can now record better audio even in noisy places like mamaks or MRT stations. If you're shooting a video or recording a podcast segment, this alone could save hours of post-editing.

There's also a remote camera control feature. Simply press your AirPods stem to start or stop video recording on your iPhone. It's small, but smart. Ideal for solo creators, students doing group projects, or even couples vlogging their makan trips.

For anyone creating content on the go, these updates feel oddly overdue and very welcome.

5. iPad Upgrade

The iPad has long flirted with being a "laptop replacement", but has often fallen short. With iPadOS 26, it might finally earn that title.

You can now resize windows freely, place them wherever you like, and open multiple apps without the iPad choking.

The Files app also gets a serious glow-up: updated list view, folders in the Dock, and even colour-coded custom icons.

For students, remote workers, or even business owners managing orders from Lazada and Shopify, this makes multitasking on the iPad actually functional, not frustrating.

Apple's 2025 updates are more about solving real-world annoyances than the anticipated AI features for Siri

For Malaysian Apple users, features like scam call protection, improved translation tools, audio upgrades for creators, and smarter visual search are a welcome change.

However, Apple users will have to wait a little longer to experience a more personalised Siri, one that's built with strong privacy guardrails.
