Chinese automaker Chery is making a leap into the future of transportation with its latest innovation: a flying car prototype

Unveiled at the Chery Global Innovation Conference in Anhui, China, this futuristic vehicle, dubbed the 'Land and Air Vehicle', is designed to revolutionise how we travel.
What makes this flying car unique is its complete lack of traditional controls. No steering wheel and no pedals — it's designed for fully autonomous operation on both the ground and in the air. This three-part vehicle seamlessly integrates an aircraft, an intelligent cockpit, and an intelligent chassis.

Chery envisions its flying car as a solution for short-distance urban commutes, offering a way to bypass traffic congestion and reach destinations more efficiently. The ability to seamlessly switch between autonomous driving on the ground and vertical takeoff and landing in the air opens up exciting possibilities for urban mobility.
It's worth noting that Chery is not the only company pursuing flying cars. Many others, especially in China, have announced similar projects in recent years. However, most of these ventures remain in the conceptual stage, and very few have progressed to successful test flights with passengers.
The road to widespread adoption of flying cars will likely be a long one, with many technological, regulatory, and infrastructural hurdles to overcome.

The company is also making significant strides in battery technology. It recently announced plans to introduce all-solid-state batteries, with targeted operations beginning in 2026 and mass production expected in 2027.
This is a big deal because all-solid-state batteries offer some key advantages over the lithium-ion batteries that currently power most electric vehicles. They have the potential for higher energy density, meaning electric cars could travel much further on a single charge. They're also considered safer and could ultimately be cheaper to produce.
Many countries see all-solid-state battery technology as a game-changer for the electric vehicle industry, and Chery's investment in this area highlights their commitment to innovation and staying ahead of the curve in the rapidly evolving automotive market.
