Samsung's 2023 mid-range, the Galaxy A54 5G, is a great device with plentiful features, as showcased in our previous review.

But today, we deep dive into the phone's camera!

Just to recap, the device packs a triple-rear camera setup with a primary 50MP camera sensor, a 12MP ultra-wide, and a 5MP macro sensor. Additionally, it can also capture videos in 4K at up to 30fps, and 1080p videos at up to 60 fps.

Here's a look at some of the pictures we took using the device:

1. The main camera does great in well-lit environments

This camera is the primary shooter and captures detailed images with good colour reproduction.

Still images came out clearly when taken in environments with good lighting and great dynamic range.

Take a look at how these pictures turned out:

2. The Samsung Galaxy A54 5G is also able to capture clear, vibrant close-ups, depending on how you focus on the subject

The first image with the PS4 controller was taken in a well-lit environment with minimal background noise.

From this image, it can be seen that the subject is magnified clearly when taken with the macro camera, as there are no blurry elements or blemishes in the photograph, even the fine specs of dust surrounding the controller can be seen from the image.

The teapot image we took was more chaotic, because the sensor may have had some confusion about what we were trying to focus on here.

The background is noisy with a lot of elements, so it appears blurry when the phone snapped the shot. The environment was also not as well-lit as that of the first image, so that could be a contributing factor as well.

3. Night photography is as splendid as Samsung has hyped it to be

It may be hard to believe by just looking at these pictures, but these shots were taken in an environment that was significantly darker than this.

Despite this low-lighting condition, the Galaxy A54 5G was able to utilise its Nightography feature with Enhanced Imaging, 1.6x wider OIS, and AI Image Enhancer which employs AI algorithms that optimise image processing and noise reduction in low-light scenarios.

These algorithms analyse the scene and adjust settings accordingly to produce better-exposed and less noisy images.

4. Last but not least, portrait images taken on the smartphone were crisp and clear as well!

And this was all from a casual point and shoot. :P

All in all, the Samsung Galaxy A54 5G delivers in terms of smartphone photography.

For under RM2,000, its camera is very impressive for what it brings to the table, and is worth considering if you're looking for a solid smartphone camera in a midrange device.
