MOH Closes WTCKL PPV After 1.3 Million COVID-19 Vaccine Doses Administered

Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said the mega PPV has achieved its goal of vaccinating large numbers of people since its opening on 5 May, reported Berita Harian.

"WTCKL has achieved its goal, and today we are closing the PPV that has given out the most vaccinations in Malaysia," he said during the centre's closing ceremony on Sunday, 3 October.

Since opening its doors 150 days ago, WTCKL has delivered nearly 1.3 million COVID-19 vaccine doses to 645,000 people, making it the PPV with the most number of shots given in the country.

"We no longer need to have large PPVs operating, as this involves costs and so on," he said, adding that the majority of people are now fully vaccinated.

Khairy said that he will also be meeting with officials from the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI) to discuss the PPVs that should remain open for foreigners and those who have missed their appointments.

Meanwhile, he said several PPVs across the country will still remain open for the adolescents vaccination programme (PICK-Remaja), and private and government clinics will be used for booster vaccines.

He said at its peak, WTCKL administered up to 18,000 vaccine doses daily.

"This is most special for Klang Valley, where the number of daily cases has started to drop, until today we saw a total of 9,000 cases, compared to the peak of 23,000 cases when I was appointed," he added.

"It's because of all of you, what you do saves lives."

As of Sunday, 3 October, 87.6% of the Malaysian adult population have been fully vaccinated.
