A community activist from Bukit Pelanduk, Port Dickson, was upset to discover that his identity as an informant in the misappropriation of subsidised diesel in the area was leaked

According to Sinar Harian, Anbin Bala, as he is known in the community, said he sent an email to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) on 1 July to inform them about the illegal storage of controlled goods in his area.

However, the 44-year-old said a few weeks later, some friends came to ask him about his complaint.

"On 1 July, I sent an email to the KPDNHEP minister regarding the issue that was occurring in the Bukit Pelanduk area here," he told the Malay daily when met last Wednesday, 13 July.

"Unfortunately, the information in my email was leaked, causing me to worry about my personal and family's safety for making the report," he said.

The man claimed that there were at least 20 to 25 illegal storages of subsidised diesel around Port Dickson

He explained that the information was obtained based on observations and complaints he received from concerned locals.

Even the petrol station employees in the area, he said, have seen suspicious tanker lorries with no logos pumping and taking away large volumes of diesel.

"Many know me as a community activist, and that is why they report to me about the swindling that was happening," Bala said.

"They want to make complaints, but they're scared."

Bala further claimed that there may be corruption occurring within KPDNHEP Negeri Sembilan that has allowed such illegal activities to continue

He also suspected that there was an 'insider' within the government agency that exposed him as the whistleblower to the public.

The activist said it should not have happened, and clarified that the reason why he reported the illegal activity was not politically-motivated or of personal interest, but in the interest of the community.

"After all, KPDNHEP disseminates information to the public and I was called to help ensure that such activities are eradicated," he said.

Bala told Sinar Harian that he hopes those responsible will be honest in conducting investigations and taking action against the swindlers.

Last week alone, the ministry cracked down on two syndicates that were stealing and storing subsidised diesel in the state

According to Bernama, KPDNHEP Negeri Sembilan raided two illegal storage facilities in Kampung Baru Sungai Nipah, Port Dickson, and Kampung Bemban Hilir, Seremban, on 12 and 15 July, respectively.

In the first raid, over 15,000 litres of diesel, two tanker lorries, and equipment used to transfer the fuel were seized, with the total seizure valued at RM92,250.

In the second raid, 31,215 litres of subsidised diesel and similar equipment were seized, coming up to an estimated value of RM269,912.25. Four suspects were also detained.

The cases are being investigated under Sections 20(1) and 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961.
