Video Shows Factory Workers Standing Shoulder To Shoulder While Being Ferried In A Lorry

In the 19-second long video, the factory workers can be seen standing shoulder to shoulder in the back of the lorry.

Viral photos taken from inside the lorry show that the workers were holding onto metal chains and the railings of the lorry to keep themselves balanced while being transported.

All of them are wearing pink wristbands and face masks.

The police were alerted about the incident and managed to stop the lorry while on the road, reported Bernama.

Kuala Muda district police chief ACP Adzli Abu Shah revealed that the incident took place after local authorities instructed 135 factory workers to show up at the Kuala Muda PKD for investigation.

The factory workers were then instructed to wear pink wristbands following the detection of positive COVID-19 cases at the chicken processing factory.

Adzli said when the police intercepted the lorry transporting the factory workers, it was already making the third trip between Kuala Muda PKD and the chicken processing factory.

"The employer arranged for a special lorry to bring all 135 positive cases on three trips to the Kuala Muda PKD," he said.

Meanwhile, the factory management is being investigated under Section 22 (b) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 (Act 342) for not complying with an order issued by an authorised officer, reported Berita Harian.

They will also be investigated under Section 270 of the Penal Code for negligent or mischievous acts that may cause an infection with a life-threatening disease.

New Straits Times reported that Malaysia recorded 100 workplace clusters last week.

Of the hundred, Selangor has the most clusters at 31, followed by 21 in Johor, and eight each in Penang and Sabah.

Only Perlis and Labuan recorded zero workplace clusters between 7 and 13 June.
