[VIDEO] Security Guard Shoots Knife-Wielding Man Who Went On Rampage At Banting Restaurant
The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
A man armed with a machete was shot in the leg by a security guard after attacking patrons at a restaurant near Banting Hospital
The incident, which took place on Saturday, 19 April, and was captured in a 57-second video that has since gone viral. The footage shows the man lunging at several individuals who attempted to defend themselves using chairs.
As the situation escalated, a security guard fired a single shot, hitting the suspect in the leg.
According to Kuala Langat district police chief Supt Mohd Akmalrizal Radzi, the man had earlier been brought to Banting Hospital for treatment after a police report was lodged about his aggressive behaviour at home.
Police were first alerted to the suspect's erratic actions at around 12.05pm, following a call from his younger sibling. He was later taken to the hospital before the machete-wielding incident occurred around 3.31pm.
Police have taken the security guard's statement
Mohd Akmalriza said initial investigations found that the guard was on duty at Banting Hospital.
"So far, the security guard has not been detained, and police have only recorded his statement regarding the incident," he was quoted as saying by the New Straits Times yesterday, 20 April.
The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder, and Sections 37 and 39 of the Arms Act 1960. However, it is unclear whether the suspect refers to the machete-wielding man or the security guard.
