An elderly woman was publicly slapped by her son simply for asking to borrow RM1 at a grocery store, an incident witnessed by several customers, according to the shop owner

The encounter was shared on Threads by the shop owner, Agness, reported Kosmo.

She said the woman, believed to be in her 60s, came in to buy a few essentials but was short RM1 at the cashier. She then called her son, who was waiting outside, to ask if she could borrow the amount.

Instead of helping, the son lashed out.

Do you think I'm a bank?

"I'm already doing you a favour by coming with you," he shouted before slapping her across the face.

The shop owner said the scene left everyone in the store stunned

She later covered the cost of the woman's items out of her own pocket.

"Please don't be rude to your mother or anyone else. Learn to respect the elderly. Learn to be human," she added, according to the Malay tabloid.
