PM Anwar Says No To RM44 Million Ransom After MAHB Cyberattack
The prime minister refused to meet the hackers' demands.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has refused to comply with the demands of cyberattackers who hacked Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) recently
Speaking at the 218th Police Day celebration today, 25 March, Anwar revealed that MAHB's system was hacked several days ago, with the attackers demanding a USD10 million (about RM44.4 million) ransom, reported FMT.
"Yesterday (24 March), we discussed the cyberattack that seriously impacted MAHB. The discussion focused on how to resolve the matter, including the hackers' demand for USD10 million.
"I didn't wait five seconds before immediately saying no," said the prime minister.
He stressed that a nation would not be safe if its leadership and systems succumbed to the demands of criminals and foreign threats.

However, Anwar did not disclose further details of the attack or the identities of the perpetrators
The prime minister said the government is currently working with relevant agencies to resolve the matter, reported the New Straits Times.
"Yes, there are risks, and we must face them with courage and strength. This also requires technological sophistication, as well as additional funding for the police, Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), and all relevant agencies to enhance our preparedness," he was quoted as saying.
