A photo showing two siblings holding each other's hands while watching their COVID-19 positive father board an ambulance has gone viral on Facebook

The photo was shared by DAP Balakong sanitisation team chief Lee Khai Ming last Wednesday, 19 May.

According to him, the father was having breathing difficulties at about 10.30pm on 18 May and a relative of the father contacted him for help.

It is believed that the father contracted COVID-19 from his workplace before bringing the virus home and spreading it to his three children, aged one, three, and five.

He is said to be a single father and the sole breadwinner of the family, working as a salesman. He tested positive for COVID-19 on 13 May.

His three children tested positive for the virus as well, but they are asymptomatic.

When the father was speaking to Lee over the phone, the DAP member said the father had to catch his breath every few sentences

"There was a conundrum. The father was reluctant to be admitted to a hospital," Lee said.

"Fortunately, in the end, he compromised and was willing to go to the hospital for medical treatment."

"My last words to him was, 'You have to stay alive for the sake of your children!'"

Sin Chew Daily reported that the grandfather who took care of the children tested negative for COVID-19.

Prior to the incident, the children practised self-isolation at home. Their grandaunt ordered GrabFood for them.

They did not seek help until their father was having breathing difficulties.

The ambulance arrived at their home in Puchong at about 2.30am

The photo Lee shared shows the five-year-old brother and three-year-old sister holding each other's hands as they watch their father board the ambulance.

Lee told Sin Chew Daily that the Ministry of Health had made arrangements to send the family of four to the hospital together.

After they were admitted to the hospital, Lee and his team performed a deep cleaning of their home.

Many netizens said the photo showing the siblings standing in front of the ambulance hand-in-hand had moved them to tears.

"The photo of the brother holding his sister's hand... (my) tears are gushing," lamented a Facebook user.

Another person said, "The brother is holding his sister, and the father who has breathing difficulty is still holding his 1.5-year-old child. Seeing this (makes me) tear. Hope your family is safe."
