Online Seller Claims Artificial Hymens With Fake Blood Can Restore A Woman's Virginity

This curious product has recently been in high demand on online shopping platforms. A quick search on several well-known e-commerce sites shows that the sale of artificial hymens does exist for those who want to "recreate the virgin experience".

But, hey, if it's consensual and both parties share the same fantasy, we're not judging!

The price of the product varies between traders, though there are only a few out there, based on a quick online search. Buyers can get one 'kit' for between RM94 and RM200.

"The concept of virginity involves moral and religious (sic) and can cause consequences in interpersonal relationship," says one product description.

"Traditionally, there [is] a cultural expectation that a female would not engage [in] premarital sex. Now our product can help you get your virginity back easily anytime. No surgery. No side effect."

"[The] artificial hymen kit is made [with] medical grade Red Dye Liquid pigment on the dissolvable collagen membrane which gives a very similar effect as real human blood," the seller claims.

The dealer also assumes that "since hymens can be broken via physical activity or even by the use of a tampon, many women are concerned about restoring their virginity."

The description goes on to say that cosmetic procedures such as "hymen repair" or "hymen reconstruction" can be costly, thus, the artificial hymen is a "cheaper and convenient way to become a virgin again!"

In the instructions, the seller tells users to insert the hymen capsule into the vagina. During intercourse, the capsule will ooze out a red liquid to simulate bleeding.

"Add in a few moans and groans and you will pass through undetectable!" the seller wrote.

In 2009, a mass debate kicked off between Egyptian lawmakers when a Chinese company had advertised their "Artificial Hymen Virginity Kit" to every Arab country. Some parliament members even suggested the sale of the product be made illegal. Despite the fuss about the item, there is still no proof it even reached the Egyptian market, reported CBS News.

Later in 2019, Amazon had to take down a fake virginity product after its sale sparked outrage in India, according to India Times.

However, the term 'virginity' is merely a social, cultural, and religious construct with neither medical nor scientific basis.

The hymen is "a remnant tissue just inside the opening of the vagina" and "has no proven medical or physiological purpose". For some women, there's no tissue at all.

In fact, the World Health Organization says the appearance of a hymen is not a reliable indication of intercourse and there is no known examination that can prove that someone has had sex.
