The incident occurred in Mae Sot, a town near the Thai-Myanmar border, where villagers reported hearing unsettling sounds emanating from a remote forest.

According to South China Morning Post, citing Thai news portal The Universal Daily News, residents avoided the area, particularly at night, after mistaking the man's cries for help as ghostly sounds.

On 24 November, Thai police and rescue teams investigated the mysterious cries.

Calling into the forest, the rescuers were startled to hear a human voice respond

Following the sound, they discovered Liu Chuanyi, a 22-year-old Chinese man, trapped 12m down a dry well.

Weakened, bruised, and with a fractured wrist, Liu revealed through a translator that he had been stuck for three days without food or water.

To conserve energy, he limited his cries for help to once an hour.

Authorities suspect Liu fell into the well while wandering through the forest, though why he was in the area remains unclear.

The incident has since captivated Chinese social media, with netizens both marvelling at Liu's resilience and poking fun at the villagers' ghostly misinterpretation.

The well has now been sealed to prevent future accidents, but the story serves as a reminder that not all strange noises in the dark are what they seem. Sometimes, they're just a very determined man calling for help.
