Man Killed By Elephants While Trying To Ward Them Away From Primary School In Johor
Another individual was injured by the elephants.
One individual was killed and another injured while attempting to ward off elephants behind a primary school in Mersing today, 26 September
According to Berita Harian, both individuals were attacked by elephants behind SK LKTP Tenggaroh at FELDA Tenggaroh 5.
Tenggaroh state assemblyperson Raven Kumar Krishnasamy said that locals alerted the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (PERHILITAN) about the presence of the elephants at around 8.30am.
He advised the residents not to approach the elephants. However, at 11.30am, the FELDA management received a call informing them that two individuals had been attacked and trampled by elephants.

"It is understood that the [two victims] approached the elephants to drive them away with sticks," said the assemblyperson
"We are saddened by this incident and urge PERHILITAN to take appropriate action immediately to address the issue of elephants roaming in residential areas," Harian Metro quoted Raven as saying.
He urged residents to take precautions if they encounter the animals, saying, "[Everyone] should stay away from the animals to avoid unwanted incidents."
Raven revealed that elephants had previously been seen roaming in areas some distance from the incident site, but drone monitoring showed that they had moved to another area.
