The accused was charged under Section 323 and 326a of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and causing hurt to a spouse, reported Malaysiakini.

Under the first charge, Hafizul could be sentenced up to one year's jail upon conviction, while the second charge could double the penalty of the first charge upon conviction.

Earlier, Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Muhammad Shahril Ramli requested for bail to be set at RM7,000.

The request was made under the condition that the accused would not harass the victim or witnesses involved in the incident.

The case will be re-mentioned next month on 18 May.
