Yesterday, 6 March, a terrifying incident unfolded in a tunnel leading to a condominium in Kajang, where sudden flooding trapped a woman's vehicle

The floodwaters, allegedly originating from a nearby construction site, quickly turned the tunnel into a dangerous trap for unsuspecting drivers.

One driver shared her harrowing experience with SAYS, explaining that the water in the tunnel initially seemed shallow enough to pass through.

However, as she drove in, a sudden surge of water swept her car into the middle of the tunnel

Attempts to accelerate or reverse proved futile as the car began to float

She recounted that while she was trapped, another car — possibly a Myvi — entered the tunnel. Its momentum carried it through to the other side, but she wasn't as lucky.

Water started leaking into her vehicle, slowly at first, but within 10 minutes, it had risen to the passenger seat level.

She called emergency services (999) for advice and managed to roll down a window just before her car's battery died.

"The scariest part was getting out of the car because I couldn't gauge the depth of the water — it was murky, teh tarik-coloured — and the current was quite strong. More water was also rushing in," she shared.

Carefully, she placed one foot down and found solid ground, with the water reaching her stomach, approximately 1m deep.

She then waded to the nearest dry land, struggling against the strong flood currents.

Thankfully, she made it out safely and was later assisted by her father, who waited for the water levels to recede before retrieving the car

"Bomba was on the way but I got out before they arrived," she told SAYS.

Meanwhile, the Kajang Fire and Rescue Station confirmed the incident

A spokesperson told SAYS that they received a distress call and dispatched a team of firemen to the scene.

"However, I cannot confirm the cause of the flooding as that is beyond our jurisdiction," he said, adding that heavy rainfall had occurred in the area before the incident.
