Loke: Private Vehicle Owners No Longer Need To Display Road Tax
The new policy comes into effect starting today, 10 February.
Private vehicle owners no longer have to display their motor vehicle licence, commonly referred to as road tax, starting today, 10 February
According to Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook, this is part of the ministry's efforts to digitise the Road Transport Department (JPJ) services, particularly for motor vehicle and driving licences.
The move will be enforced in stages, first involving private vehicles and motorcycles owned by Malaysians.
In the first phase, certain categories of vehicles must still display their motor vehicle licence, including those owned by private firms, foreigners, commercial vehicles, as well as public service vehicles.
Loke added that this meant that Section 20 of the Road Transport Act on the display of motor vehicle licences will no longer be enforced
According to Loke, people are encouraged to register for JPJ accounts or use the MyJPJ phone application to access their digital motor vehicle licences and driving licences.
"I welcome all drivers and vehicle owners to transition to the digital platform. With this, the congestion and long lines at JPJ counters will be reduced," he said, as reported by Free Malaysia Today.
He, however, reminded people that action will continue to be taken against anyone found driving a vehicle without a valid motor vehicle or driving licence, in line with the Road Transport Act.
