Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah has agreed to not be paid Royal Emoluments for six months

Comptroller of the Royal Household for Istana Negara Datuk Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said the move was to ease the country's financial burden as the government continues to fight the COVID-19 pandemic, reported Bernama.

With that said, the Agong and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah will stop receiving Royal Emoluments starting this month until August 2020.

The move is also in line with the Cabinet's decision to cut the Prime Minister, ministers, and deputy ministers' salaries for two months, said Ahmad Fadil

According to him, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has been informed about the Agong's decision.

"Al-Sultan Abdullah also commended the Malaysian government, the Ministry of Health, and other related government agencies on the recognition given by an international financial services firm recently on the handling of COVID-19 in Malaysia," said Ahmad Fadil.

He added that the Agong hopes that the rakyat would continue to pray with Their Majesties so that Malaysia will always be protected by Allah and the COVID-19 pandemic will end soon.
