Malaysian Husband Divorces Wife For Undergoing Mastectomy Due To Breast Cancer
Noraniza Ismail said she regrets delaying her cancer treatment to care for her sick husband.
A Malaysian husband is divorcing his wife after she underwent a mastectomy due to breast cancer
According to Bernama, the man will declare his divorce from 47-year-old Noraniza Ismail at the Syariah court in Penang on 29 October 2024.
The couple has been married for 13 years and has two daughters, aged 6 and 8. Noraniza also has a 24-year-old son from her first marriage.
The couple faced numerous challenges together. In 2021, when her husband became bedridden due to complications from diabetes, Noraniza became the family's breadwinner while also caring for their children, including their older daughter with Down syndrome.
However, when she discovered a lump in her right breast in August 2022, Noraniza said her husband provided little to no support.

She underwent surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy, all while managing her household with the help of her son
Meanwhile, her husband was unemployed after losing his job during the COVID-19 pandemic.
"He was okay at first after [the breast cancer] diagnosis. What he wasn't okay [with was when] I told him I had to do a mastectomy to remove one breast," Noraniza said.
Noraniza regretted neglecting her condition and delaying treatment to take care of her husband at the time, which caused her cancer to progress from Stage II to Stage III.
In May this year, he informed her of his intention to divorce her.
"I really regret [neglecting my health because I was forced to take care of him]. When it came to me, he didn't even appreciate what I did for him. He just ignored me," she lamented.
Despite this, she does not regret her decision to undergo the mastectomy, even if it cost her marriage.
She is determined to defeat cancer for the sake of her children.
"I've no issue removing my breast. All I want is to be healthy so that I can take care of my children," Bernama quoted her as saying.
