Former Miss World Malaysia Highlights Need For Baby Hatches After Dumping Case In Kuching
Police recently arrested a woman who was believed to have dumped a newborn onto the streets from her hotel room.
Following a recent baby dumping case in Sarawak, former Miss World Malaysia Larissa Ping highlighted that the only baby hatch in Kuching has ceased operations
On Wednesday, 13 January, members of the public found the dead body of a newborn child at Jalan Bukit Mata.
Kuching district police chief ACP Awang Din Awang Gani told Berita Harian that the authorities received a call regarding the incident around 9.20pm.
"Acting according to the information, a team of police officers were dispatched to the scene and found the body sprawled on the road with injuries to their head," Awang Din said.

Astro Awani reported that the police then arrested the 19-year-old woman.
The body was then taken to the Sarawak General Hospital for further action and the suspect was also admitted for further treatment.
The case is currently being investigated under Section 318 of the Penal Code.

Larissa, who is a native Sarawakian herself, took to Twitter to talk about the issue.
At first, she intended to raise awareness regarding the presence of a baby hatch located in KPJ Hospital in Kuching.
However, after contacting the hospital, she learned that the only baby hatch in Kuching has ceased operations.
She wrote, "I called KPJ Kuching earlier just to double confirm and they told me that they've stopped operating the baby hatch after they moved to the new hospital. There's no baby hatch in Kuching at all now."
Other netizens echoed her sentiment and urged for a new baby hatch to be set up in the area
One person wrote, "Oh dear, this is devastating. Hopefully, there are initiatives of building at least one baby hatch to make it available for those in need in future."
