UPDATE:

Two young Brisbane tourists have gone missing while on holiday in Tasmania, Australia, sparking a police search after they missed their flight home and went silent on social media

According to the Tasmania Police, Leannedra Kang and Takahiro Toya, both in their 20s, were scheduled to fly from Launceston to Brisbane on Wednesday, 4 June, but did not board their flight or return their rental car.

The couple had been exploring various parts of the state and were last believed to be in the St Helens or Scamander area

"At this stage, the last confirmed movements of Leannedra and Takahiro is when they departed their accommodation in North Hobart on Tuesday, 3 June.

"From there they had planned to travel to Richmond, Ross, Bicheno, Bay of Fires, and Mole Creek," the police said.

They were driving a rental white Toyota Corolla with the registration number L67GW.

Leannedra's sister, Cassandra, said it was out of character for her sister to not be in contact

Speaking to Pulse Tasmania, she described Leannedra as someone who is usually very active on social media. She had been regularly sharing updates from the trip until suddenly going quiet on Tuesday afternoon, raising alarm bells.

Adding to the concern, Leannedra's other sister, Alexandra, shared on Facebook that the last GPS location from her sister's phone was in Goshen, a location not part of their planned itinerary.

"Please let me know if anyone has been in contact with her or seen her. My family is beyond worried," she wrote.

Police are urging anyone who may have seen the couple or their white Toyota Corolla to come forward

They also have a message for the missing couple: "Leannedra and Takahiro, if you see this, you're not in any trouble, please phone police or family to let them know you're okay."
