Family In Video Say They Were Told To Throw Away 'Saka' Into River By Traditional Healer

The family was seen stopping their car by a bridge in Kelantan before a woman threw what appeared to be two plastic bags filled with trash into the river through the car's window.

A family that was caught on video throwing away trash from their car into a river in Kelantan say they were throwing away 'saka', a kind of djinn, after visiting a traditional healer who instructed them to do so

A woman from the family in the car is reported to have apologised over the incident.

Harian Metro reported that the woman took to her Facebook profile to offer an explanation behind the incident, in which the family was seen stopping their car by a bridge in Kelantan, before she threw what appeared to be two plastic bags filled with trash into the river through the car's window.

According to the woman, they were returning from Kuala Krai in southern-central Kelantan after seeing a traditional healer, who told them to throw the 'saka' into the river.

The explanation comes after the video clip went viral with netizens criticising the family for having no civic awareness about littering

Meanwhile, the Kelantan Road Transport Department (RTD) said that it has since issued an investigation notice to the woman for her actions

In a statement carried by Bernama on Wednesday, 6 January, RTD said that road users found dumping garbage from vehicles can be fined up to RM2,000 or jailed for a maximum of six months.

According to RTD, the woman's act violates Rule 52 of the Road Traffic Rules 1959 and the perpetrator can be prosecuted under Section 119 (2) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for dumping garbage from a vehicle.
