A DAP supporter, who was hailed as one of the party's most active members, fainted and died yesterday, 6 November, after helping Pakatan Harapan (PH) campaign earlier that day

According to Guang Ming Daily, Aik Kean Ang was found unconscious in his office opposite Pasar Basah Apollo Raja Uda in Butterworth, Penang.

It was understood that the medical emergency team received a distress call at 6.52pm.

One of the medical officers was Aik's friend, and they performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on him before he was rushed to the hospital.

The 40-year-old businessman was said to have suddenly felt unwell before collapsing in his office.

Aik died while receiving treatment. The cause of his death has yet to be revealed, pending the autopsy report.

Nan Yang Daily reported that Aik was a well-known figure in Penang. He had 13,000 followers on Facebook.

Prior to his passing, Aik uploaded seven photos on Facebook at 1.05pm on Sunday, journaling the on-ground campaigning effort in Bagan.

The photos show DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng, the incumbent Bagan member of parliament (MP), speaking at the PH operation centre in the constituency.

It was believed that Aik was actively involved in the campaign event on that day before he fainted in the evening.

At 5.06pm, an hour before he was rushed to the hospital, he also posted a video promoting PH for the upcoming 15th General Election (GE15).

At the time of writing, there are at least 100 posts from party members, friends, and family expressing their grief over Aik's passing on his Facebook profile

Many of them lamented that Aik could not live to witness the possibility of PH regaining federal power on election day, which falls on 19 November.

"A sad and shocking news on the passing of comrade Aik Kean Ang," wrote incumbent Batu Kawan MP Kasthuri Patto, adding, "You will truly be missed as a DAP fighter, comrade, and brother."

Guang Ming Daily reported that Aik was the son of a successful entrepreneur and philanthropist, who was awarded a Datukship in July 2021. His father passed away in November last year.
