Man From China Impersonates Couple's Dead Son For 11 Years To Comfort Grieving Mother
Xia Zhanhai and his wife Liang Qiaoying lost their only son in a tragic gas leak accident.
For 11 years, Jiang Jingwei, a police officer from Shanghai, has been more than just a community protector — he's been a lifeline for a grieving couple, filling the void left by their late son
This remarkable bond, which began as an unexpected request, has grown into a story that has touched the hearts of millions across China.
According to the South China Morning Post, the story began in 2003 when Xia Zhanhai and his wife Liang Qiaoying, from Shanxi province, lost their only son in a tragic gas leak accident.
The incident left Liang paralysed and mentally impaired, unable to comprehend life beyond a child's understanding. To ease her sorrow, Xia fabricated a comforting lie: their son was away working in a distant city.

Years later, Xia saw Jiang on a television programme and was struck by the uncanny resemblance he bore to their late son
Seizing the opportunity, Xia reached out to Jiang through a reality show, asking if he could play the role of their son, even if just for a moment. Moved by their story, Jiang agreed.
From their first emotional meeting in 2013, during which Liang tearfully embraced him, Jiang has been more than just a stand-in. He regularly visits the couple, takes them on outings, and makes video calls to check on their wellbeing.
During the Lunar New Year in 2018, he travelled to Shanxi to spend the holiday with them, continuing to offer comfort and companionship. Even last week, during the Chung Yeung Festival, Jiang called to wish them health and happiness, prompting Liang to remark on how her "son" was getting older.
Xia recently penned a heartfelt letter to the Shanghai Public Security Bureau, expressing his gratitude
"For over a decade, Jiang has quietly taken on the role of a son, bringing new life to our once grief-stricken family," he wrote.
Reflecting on his experiences, Jiang said, "Caring for them has never been a burden, but a rewarding experience."
Jiang's actions have been widely celebrated on social media, where many have praised his selflessness and compassion.
