Bukit Aman: No New Year's Eve Celebrations Allowed Nationwide

Bukit Aman's Department of Internal Security and Public Order director Datuk Hazani Ghazali said this is to avoid the risk of COVID-19 outbreaks.

He has instructed monitoring teams throughout the country to conduct patrols at popular spots to ensure there will be no large gatherings or activities that violate the standard operating procedures (SOPs) of the National Recovery Plan (NRP).

"I remind the public not to get involved in any new year's celebration activities or gather in large numbers on the eve of the new year tomorrow (31 December) at any popular spots," he told Bernama on Thursday, 30 December.

Dang Wangi district police chief ACP Noor Dellhan Yahaya said police will also be patrolling the area to ensure COVID-19 SOPs compliance.

"This is also a reminder that Kuala Lumpur is still under Phase Four of the NRP, which has been in effect since 18 October," he said, as quoted by The Star.

The police chief added that failure to adhere to SOPs will lead to action taken.

North East district police chief ACP Soffian Santong said they will deploy 146 officers and 821 policemen to carry out the operation throughout the state.

"This is because beginning tomorrow, Penang is likely to have up to a 40% increase in traffic flow due to school and year end holidays," he said.
