#Budget2020: Maternity Leave Will Be Increased From 60 To 90 Days

The government will revisit Employment Act 1955 to ensure it stays relevant to the current needs of the workforce.

In the tabling of Budget 2020 today, 11 October, Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng announced that the period of maternity leave for government employees will be extended from 60 days to 90 days

However, it will only be enforced in 2021.

In line with 'Strategy 6: To Modernise The Labour Market', the government will revisit Employment Act 1955 to ensure the act stays relevant to the current needs of the workforce

The revisit of Employment Act 1955 also will also cover the following issues:
- The extension of overtime pay eligibility for people earning less than RM2,000 to RM4,000 a month,

- Improvement in handling of sexual harassment complaints by having better procedures and protection of the victim, and

- The stabilisation of provisions towards stopping discrimination of race, religion, or gender at the workplace.
