Barisan Nasional (BN) chairperson Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is facing calls for his ouster from the top post amidst his attempts to align the coalition with Pakatan Harapan (PH) to form a government

According to New Straits Times, which cited MCA secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon, BN Supreme Council has proposed that Zahid be replaced with his deputy, Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.

This comes after a letter showed Zahid writing to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong saying that BN members of parliament (MPs) will support Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the 10th prime minister.

"I wish to emphasise that the claims in the letter are completely out of line with the decision made by the BN Supreme Council in both meetings on 22 November," the portal quoted Chong as saying today.

"In both meetings, the supreme council resolved that BN will not support anyone as the prime minister at this moment [...] Zahid had gone against the BN supreme council's collective decision and did not correctly communicate BN's resolution to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong," the MCA secretary-general added.

Chong said that MCA believes Zahid is no longer fit to continue leading BN.

"We call for his resignation from his position as chairperson, to be replaced by (UMNO deputy president) Mohamad Hasan as proposed during the BN supreme council meeting last night," he said.

While there was an attempt to remove Zahid as BN chairperson last night, it did not succeed as UMNO MPs entered the meeting room

Another portal, Malaysiakini, reported, while citing sources, that the meeting last night also discussed PH's offer to BN if the latter supported Anwar as the 10th prime minister.

"Among the offers were the post of deputy prime minister and other senior cabinet portfolios, including the Home Ministry, Human Resources Ministry, and Transport Ministry," reported Malaysiakini.

Meanwhile, Zahid, who met with the Agong today, said that he was told that BN MPs must take part in a unity government:

The Agong will be meeting the other Malay rulers for a special meeting at the Istana Negara tomorrow for further discussions:
