21-Year-Old Sabahan Shoots Friend Dead After Thinking He Was A Deer

The suspect tested positive for drugs.

A 21-year-old man from Keningau, Sabah shot his 18-year-old friend dead after mistaking him for a deer on Saturday, 6 July

New Straits Times reported that the duo was hunting in the Karamatoi Forest area in Sook, Sabah. 

The 18-year-old victim died on the spot after the 10.30am incident.

According to China Press, the victim had killed a few deers while the suspect did not get any. 

After hearing a sound which he thought was made by a deer, the 21-year-old shot in that direction.

He then found the victim lying on the ground unconscious, according to Keningau district criminal investigation division head ASP Lee Nyuk Lim. 

The suspect attempted to resuscitate the victim but to no avail.

The 21-year-old then surrendered himself to the police following advice from his father

The victim's body was eventually found near a river with a shot wound on his neck, reported China Press. 

The suspect is believed to have been hallucinating at the time of the incident as he tested positive for drugs. 

He has since been remanded for seven days for investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act.
