Two cosplayers were arrested for allegedly carrying fake firearms while out in public on 18 September at Atria Shopping Mall, Damansara Jaya

The two young men, aged 15 and 24, were reported to have been cosplaying in tactical costumes in conjunction with the "Let's Anime Cosplay" event held at the mall. They were reported to have been carrying weapon props resembling firearms and grenades on them.

Petaling Jaya district police were called to arrest the two suspects after a report was made against them. The two suspects were detained at 4.30pm on the same day, the police said in a statement.

They were allegedly carrying fakes of an M4 carbine, a Glock pistol, and two hand grenades between them.

Both suspects have been remanded for three days until 20 September under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code

Petaling Jaya District deputy police chief Supt Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood confirmed that the firearms were fake and that the two suspects did not have any past criminal records.

Ku Mashariman went on to advise the public to refrain from intentionally buying or carrying any form of fake firearm as it is against the law.

If found guilty of breaking this law, one can be charged under section 36(1) of the Weapons Act 1960, which carries a jail sentence of no longer than a year, or a fine of RM5,000, or both.
