1 Dead And 4 Injured After Bukit Tinggi LRT3 Scaffolding Collapses

Yesterday, 29 July, a steel scaffolding fell at the Light Rail Transit 3 (LRT3) project construction site in Bandar Bukit Tinggi, Klang, trapping five foreign workers beneath the wreckage
New Straits Times reported four out of the five workers were successfully rescued and sustained light injuries. All men are in their 30s.
It is understood that the incident occurred at 2.41pm.
The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) were also working to rescue the remaining worker who was trapped under the rubble.
Unfortunately, when they recovered his body at 4.20pm, police confirmed that he had died.

New Straits Times quoted JBPM chief Norazam Khamis as saying that firemen from the Port Klang and Shah Alam stations were dispatched to the scene.
According to Norazam, the structure's scaffolding gave way while the construction workers were pouring wet cement into one of the columns, causing it to collapse.

A stop-work order was issued with immediate effect by the contractor of the project, Pembinaan Jaya Zira Sdn Bhd, the GS09 Work Package Contractor (WPC)
"We would like to express our deepest condolences and apologies to the victims and their families, and also apologise to the public for any inconvenience caused," they said in a statement shared by the Ministry of Transport (MOT) yesterday.
The company also said that they are cooperating with JBPM and are looking into the cause of the incident.

Prasarana Malaysia Berhad (Prasarana) has instructed its turnkey contractor, MRCB George Kent Sdn Bhd, to also carry out a thorough investigation in relation to an incident
"We firmly believe that safety is paramount and it requires attention and total commitment from all parties involved to ensure overall worksite safety is maintained and that we comply with safety regulations at all times," Prasarana said in a statement yesterday.
"Prasarana will take appropriate action including to immediately launch our own probe into the matter as well as extending our full cooperation to the authorities to ensure a thorough and independent investigation is carried out."
The company also expressed its condolences over the construction worker's death and assured that the victims and their families' well-being are prioritised.
In response to the tragic incident, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong also shared his condolences to the family members of the victim who died.
"Praying for speedy recovery to four more construction workers who suffered injuries from being trapped in the rubble," he said.
"I take this incident seriously and urge immediate detailed investigation to be carried out thoroughly."This incident which happened in front of Premier Hotel, along Jalan Langat, is not the first LRT accident to have happened this year.
